Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that is thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's antimicrobial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions has been thought to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria that is involved in causing acne. In a study comparing tea tree oil gel to benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil had fewer side effects than the benzoyl peroxide, which was associated with itching, burning, stinging, and dryness
Bergamot oil has a revitalizing fragrance and it blends well with other oils making it an excellent addition to any acne treatment blend. Bergamot has antibacterial and drying properties making it an ideal spot treatment for existing blemishes. The citrus aroma has a calming effect on the mind and soul.
Cedarwood is often used in skin care products for men as it is good for oily skin and to calm the skin after the abrasive effects sometimes caused by shaving. Cedarwood is particularly good for dandruff and acne as it is known to control excessive sebum production in the skin and scalp.
Lavender oil has well known antibacterial and soothing properties. It is excellent as a preventative acne treatment that effectively stops future breakouts while clearing the redness often associated with acne prone skin
Rosemary essential oil can help control dandruff, oily scalp and skin, acne, and is said to encourage hair growth.Recently, rosemary extract has also become more common in acne treatments and products designed for the reduction of acne scars.
It is very astringent, and due to its antiseptic qualities it will help cleanse and heal the infected areas. It has some good antiseptic properties that make it useful in treating acne, as well as other skin inflammations.

Clove oil is a very potent essential oil that has burning and purifying properties. In its pure form it is very irritating and should be blended with a skin friendly carrier oil (like grapeseed oil) before being applied to the skin. Some devotees use it full strength as a spot treatment for stubborn acne, but this is not generally advised. When diluted, clove oil can be applied to the skin to treat emerging or existing breakouts. It is very strong and acts very quickly.

Antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal, patchouli is used to treat acne and scalp disorders. The oil is extracted from dried, fermented leaves of the small shrub and emits an intense, woody, sweet-spicy, balsamic odor. Patchouli essential oil is used as a topical remedy for skin problems such as acne, eczema, inflamed, cracked, chapped and irritated skin. It is known as a cell rejuvenator and helpful in healing wounds and scars. As an antifungal, patchouli oil has been used to treat athlete's foot. For the hair, patchouli oil has been used for dandruff and to aid oily hair.
Used by ancient civilizations as an incense. In Egypt it was used for cosmetics and embalming. It is generally used in the East for treating wounds, inflammations, skin disorders and nervous complaints. Used for acne and acne scarring in this blend.
This highly aromatic essential oil is excellent for people with excessively oily skin. When applied topically it helps reduce sebum production thus limited breakouts associated with oily skin. Not recommended for those with very dry or sensitive skin. The strong drying properties of this oil make it an excellent spot treatment that can be applied throughout the day to effected areas.
